Summary

A couple who broke up months ago make a pact to pretend to still be together for their annual weeklong vacation with their best friends in this glittering and wise new novel from #1 New York Times bestselling author Emily Henry。

Harriet and Wyn have been the perfect couple since they met in college—they go together like salt and pepper, honey and tea, lobster and rolls。 Except, now—for reasons they’re still not discussing—they don’t。

They broke up six months ago。 And still haven’t told their best friends。

Which is how they find themselves sharing the largest bedroom at the Maine cottage that has been their friend group’s yearly getaway for the last decade。 Their annual respite from the world, where for one vibrant, blue week they leave behind their daily lives; have copious amounts of cheese, wine, and seafood; and soak up the salty coastal air with the people who understand them most。

Only this year, Harriet and Wyn are lying through their teeth while trying not to notice how desperately they still want each other。 Because the cottage is for sale and this is the last week they’ll all have together in this place。 They can’t stand to break their friends’ hearts, and so they’ll play their parts。 Harriet will be the driven surgical resident who never starts a fight, and Wyn will be the laid-back charmer who never lets the cracks show。 It’s a flawless plan (if you look at it from a great distance and through a pair of sunscreen-smeared sunglasses)。 After years of being in love, how hard can it be to fake it for one week…in front of those who know you best?

I understand that this novel did not do it for a lot of people, but it really did it for me。 I love that Henry has mastered the perfect balance of contemporary and romance。 I will say that this novel has the romance of People We Meet on Vacation but the trauma and darker topics of Beach Read。 I really connected with Harriet's need to people please and do things with the interests of others in mind versus her own wants。 She's a crier, but it's justified! Wyn also really speaks to my soul。 I've always struggled with feeling like I don't belong or not knowing my path: I still don't know, but he truly did he truly make me feel like it's okay。 So very happy I read the advanced copy of this because it has gotten me so excited for my signed special edition! I annotated the HELL out of this on my Kindle, so I can't WAIT to reread this in the future and annotate my physical copy! I do think this novel won't be for you for the following reasons:1) Topics of grief are not your thing。 2) Second-chance romance is the bane of your existence。 3) You hate characters that cry a lot。 4) You don't like "pushy" friend groups。 5) You DESPISE slowburn (second-chance) romance。 and 6) The romantic aspects of People We Meet on Vacation weren't for you。 I'd still give it a shot because WOW did this book have my attention for all 400 pages!(DRC received through Edelweiss, thank you to both Edelweiss and Berkley for the DRC!) 。。。more

Thank you Netgalley and Berkley publishing for the early copy of Happy Place。 I’ve read Beach Read and People We Meet On Vacation by Emily Henry and I enjoyed both of them。 Beach Read was my favorite。Last year I attempted to read Book Lovers twice and DNFed both times。 Happy Place was an okay read。 It would have been so much better if these characters knew how to communicate with each other, and had learned how to express their thoughts and feelings。 They had bottled up so much , that no one rea Thank you Netgalley and Berkley publishing for the early copy of Happy Place。 I’ve read Beach Read and People We Meet On Vacation by Emily Henry and I enjoyed both of them。 Beach Read was my favorite。Last year I attempted to read Book Lovers twice and DNFed both times。 Happy Place was an okay read。 It would have been so much better if these characters knew how to communicate with each other, and had learned how to express their thoughts and feelings。 They had bottled up so much , that no one really knew what any of them were thinking or feeling。 The lack of communication was the biggest issue for all of them。 The dialogues felt choppy。 A lot of the times the characters had unfinished sentences and that was kind of frustrating。 Nothing really happened until about 73%。 So most of the excitement was in the last 27%。 I didn’t really care for the main lead characters。 Their story was very predictable and the ending wasn’t surprising at all。 Cloe was by far the best side character。 I doubt I’ll pick up another book by this author。 。。。more

This book was everything and more! So many heart clenching, tear jerking, girly giggling, self realizing moments。 Emily Henry painted the perfect story that instantly pulled in the reader。 I felt like I was walking along the shore oh Knotts Harbor, Maine with the characters。

I am sure I will be adding more to this review once the book is published and I can openly talk about it。 。。。more

4。5 stars。 This book wrung me out。 Longtime couple Harriet and Wyn have been hiding from their friends that they broke up several months ago, but now they’re stuck together at the weeklong vacation from hell, pretending they’re still engaged so they don’t ruin the trip for everyone else。 (And there’s only one bed。)This is a romance, but it’s more a novel about friendship。 The intense bonds that can form at a young age, but also how much work it takes to keep them strong as you grow up and change 4。5 stars。 This book wrung me out。 Longtime couple Harriet and Wyn have been hiding from their friends that they broke up several months ago, but now they’re stuck together at the weeklong vacation from hell, pretending they’re still engaged so they don’t ruin the trip for everyone else。 (And there’s only one bed。)This is a romance, but it’s more a novel about friendship。 The intense bonds that can form at a young age, but also how much work it takes to keep them strong as you grow up and change。 The half-star off is because I found the narrative a little choppy。 I don’t mind books with past/present time jumps, but you’ve got to give readers a clue where you are, especially when coming back to the present。 Sometimes after a long flashback, it took me a couple of pages to remember that we were outside a movie theater bathroom and not at the vacation cottage。 It was a bit jarring。 Thanks to Netgalley, the publisher, and the author for the ARC to review。 All opinions are my own。 。。。more

This book hit me unlike anything else I’ve read from Emily Henry。 Less romance more melancholy, emotional, and nostalgic。 It’s about friendship and family, growing up and saying goodbye, difficult decisions and welcoming new beginnings。 I kept finding myself relating so much to the fears and anxieties of these characters。 And the longing, the love, between Wyn and Harriet leaps off the page in a way I don’t always feel in the romances I read。 I don’t know how to describe it but it’s so easy to b This book hit me unlike anything else I’ve read from Emily Henry。 Less romance more melancholy, emotional, and nostalgic。 It’s about friendship and family, growing up and saying goodbye, difficult decisions and welcoming new beginnings。 I kept finding myself relating so much to the fears and anxieties of these characters。 And the longing, the love, between Wyn and Harriet leaps off the page in a way I don’t always feel in the romances I read。 I don’t know how to describe it but it’s so easy to believe they’re meant to be。 。。。more

I was a bit nervous about this because I've seen some people post stuff but this was so beautiful。 I cried many times and I just related to Harriet so much。 Her and Wyn are so perfect and all they want is to make each other happy。 As the book went on you could very clearly tell why they broke apart in the first place and it's just so sad。 They never stopped loving each other and I love them so much。 The found family aspect was also so good。 I loved seeing their friendship develop and all of them I was a bit nervous about this because I've seen some people post stuff but this was so beautiful。 I cried many times and I just related to Harriet so much。 Her and Wyn are so perfect and all they want is to make each other happy。 As the book went on you could very clearly tell why they broke apart in the first place and it's just so sad。 They never stopped loving each other and I love them so much。 The found family aspect was also so good。 I loved seeing their friendship develop and all of them really discover who they are at their current age。 。。。more

5/5 stars Happy Place? More like tears and pain place。 I have always believed that Emily Henry is very good at writing people falling in love, so with this book she gave us something new。 We got to see Harriet and Wyn first falling in love, then grow apart and finally find their way to each other。 This said she can write longing and yearning in a couple that’s estranged just as good as in a couple that’s falling in love for the first time。 I loved the setting and the fact that this book is also 5/5 stars Happy Place? I struggle to find the words to describe this book but I'm going to try。 Because everyone must read it。 Everyone should feel the way I felt reading it。 Joy, excitement, worry, heartbreak, pain and the delicious warm and fuzzy feeling at the end。Six friends who have become family。 One cottage in Maine who has been their happy place every summer。 What could go wrong? Except if you ask Harriet who meets her ex fiance there, Wyn, who happened to break her heart a few months ago。 The thing is, no one I struggle to find the words to describe this book but I'm going to try。 Because everyone must read it。 Everyone should feel the way I felt reading it。 Joy, excitement, worry, heartbreak, pain and the delicious warm and fuzzy feeling at the end。Six friends who have become family。 One cottage in Maine who has been their happy place every summer。 What could go wrong? Except if you ask Harriet who meets her ex fiance there, Wyn, who happened to break her heart a few months ago。 The thing is, no one knows they are not together anymore。This book does something that is becoming more and more rare in literature。 Every character has a different personality。 A distinct one。 With all their flaws and dark pasts but also positive traits that somehow, complete each other。 Somehow one of them is just what the other needs at a given time。 I loved all six of them, I laughed and I cried with them and their wonderful interactions and dialogues。 I even envied their friendship turned family。The setting and the descriptions transfer you to a place very far from home, let you experience the weird little habits and everyday life of the people living there。 I even felt like I could smell the place let alone see all the images the author painted for me。 That's just good writing folks。I saved the best for last。 That is the main couple, Wyn and Harriet。 Their relationship is presented in two timelines。 There is the present when they meet at the cottage being already separated and the past when the author takes us on a journey through their relationship from the moment they met and fell in love until their breaking up。 I loved them both。 Their character arcs were so complete, their actions always supported and explained, their personalities so three dimensional that it was like I was reading actual people and not characters in a book。 I empathized with their pain of losing each other and all the other struggles in their lives which they expressed in their own unique ways。 I celebrated their successes and mourned their losses and rooted for them。 Oh I rooted for them since the first page they appeared together。 The chemistry was explosive。 The sexual tension between them just the right amount serving to deepen their soul connection as it should be。 Their love for each other, vast。 I couldn't tear my eyes from the page every time they expressed their feelings。 Two people so made for each other, so meant be each other's soulmates and anchors through life that it causes physical pain to imagine them apart。 This book hurt me but I loved every page。 Every character。 Every dialogue line。 These are people I wish I could meet。 This is a place I would love to be。 A happy place。Firstly, thank you to Emily Henry for writing this book。 Really。 Thank you。 Also thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for giving me a copy of this gem of a book。 。。。more

I will never not adore something written by Emily Henry, and Happy Place is no exception。 We follow the story of Harriet and Wyn, who after 10 years have decided to separate but haven’t told their friends。 When their annual trip comes around things are awkward and faking being still together seems like the surefire route to an easy life, only things don’t quite go to plan。I’d call this an exes to lovers, fake dating and second chance at love amalgamation and it’s a combination that works so well I will never not adore something written by Emily Henry, and Happy Place is no exception。 We follow the story of Harriet and Wyn, who after 10 years have decided to separate but haven’t told their friends。 When their annual trip comes around things are awkward and faking being still together seems like the surefire route to an easy life, only things don’t quite go to plan。I’d call this an exes to lovers, fake dating and second chance at love amalgamation and it’s a combination that works so well together。 I really believe that Emily Henry was destined to write about love, and Happy Place simultaneously hurt and healed me at the same time。 It is deliciously warm, simultaneously sad and uplifting and looks at the theme of happiness so intrinsically that I even began to question if I was content with my life and my choices。 Reading an Emily Henry novel always feels as comforting as a warm hug and I couldn’t have read this at a better time。 Loved it! 。。。more
